Curtis Institute of Music

Curtis Institute of Music is a private conservatory in Philadelphia, USA. In 1924, Curtis Institute of Music was established by Mary Louise Curtis Bok, who named it in honor of her father, Cyrus Curtis. After consulting with musician friends including Josef Hofmann and Leopold Stokowski on how best to help musically gifted young people, Bok purchased three mansions on Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square and had them joined and renovated.

Curtis Institute of Music now offers studies toward a Diploma, Bachelor of Music, Post-Baccalaureate Diploma, Master of Music in Opera, and Professional Studies Certificate.

Curtis Institute of Music students shall learn to think and express their thoughts against a background of quiet culture, with the stimulus of personal contact with artist-teachers who represent the highest and finest in their art.

Students that complete their programs get awarded a performance diploma, Bachelor of Music, Master of Music in Opera, or Professional Studies Certificate in Opera.
